The Story of C&E Plating Limited

The Jewellery Quarter of Birmingham has worldwide renown for the quality of their products, their eye for the keenest details and for being home to some of the highest quality metalwork professionals. It is there, in 1951 that C & E started its journey.

Over the next 20 years Richard and Elizabeth Wilcock worked tirelessly to build a foundation of superior quality and craftsmanship that is still synonymous with C & E Plating today. The husband and wife team became known for their electroplating skills and providing their services to both Trade and Private customers.

In 1971, the well regarded Mr Ronald Hobbis gained ownership of the company, which only served to further enhance their reputation. Ron was already a well known man within the finishing industry, having worked as a succesful Service Chemist for companies such as W M Canning, Silvercrown & IMASA.

Under his guidance, C & E Plating became the go-to company for the highest quality in multiple finishes. Ron introduced and later specialised in Hard Gold and Bronze, processes which the company continue to provide and excel at.

FAMILY BUSINESS

The 1980’s saw Ron’s youngest son, Stephen, join the company and began a new generation of Hobbis management that continues to the present day.

Under the leadership of Steve, C & E Platings’ reputation for superior finishes continues to grow. Building on from the earliest days of their traditional craftsmanship, C & E Plating continues to push boundaries within the plating sector, developing innovative methods backed up by a wealth of information imparted from one generation to the next.

The future for C & E Plating is one rooted in tradition and innovation, as it has always been. We continue to aim to be the best in our industry, building on strong foundations, embracing technology and consistently ensuring that the highest quality service, product and client satisfaction remain at the forefront of our priorities.

Alongside WH Darby and Vaughtons, C & E Plating is under the guardianship of the latest generation of the Hobbis family. They continue to deliver a superior finish and product, going beyond the industry standards for each and every solution delivered. They are proud to work worldwide with some of the largest and most well known brands, companies, institutions, and monarchies.

Each piece that leaves our workshop at Key Hill Drive, Birmingham is checked by hand to ensure that we retain the highest of standards. Our people are highly experienced professionals in their area and we use a combination of fully handcrafted and semi-automated processes, enabling excellent quality in both low and high volume production.
